PrivateVPN Review

PrivateVPN is a well-known VPN service based out of Sweden. It offers a secure service that can be used on up to six different devices at the same time. This VPN service keeps no logs and offers servers in 30 different countries. This is not as many as some providers, but the countries used are excellent choices and give plenty of opportunity to users looking to avoid location restrictions.

A nice thing about PrivateVPN is that it offers a very informative website, which plenty of actually helpful information, rather than some over-optimistic attempts to “catch” the customer.

Ease of Use

PrivateVPN offers an exclusive remote installation option by their agent. Once set up the service is quite easy to use. It also works well on mobiles.

Using the client is quite straightforward. It has the classic options of choosing the server and then you can simply connect. You are also offered an advanced mode, with additional options of choosing the protocol, selecting the apps to close in case of VPN gets disconnected.

VPN Location

When it comes to the 30 countries that have servers offered, you get some great choices. There are six servers in the United States alone, including cities like New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. Other countries offered are everywhere from the UK to Australia, Japan, Russia, and South Korea.

Price

PrivateVPN has a single plan, which is nice as it’s easy to get going and you don’t have to decide between options. However, there are a few different price plans available.

Those who choose longer subscriptions get a reasonable discount, which is always appreciated. A one-month plan is $7.46 a month, while a three-month plan is $5.63 a month, and a year-long plan is only $4.50 a month.

Privacy

There is a large amount of VPN protocols supported by PrivateVPN, including OpenVPN, which is known as the most secure protocol on the market. Even if you prefer another protocol, you’re likely to find it as the choices are pretty astounding and can easily be switched out on the fly.

Security is pretty good here, with a kill switch that cuts the Internet in the event that the VPN connection is lost. This ensures that no traffic is leaked if the system does go down for whatever reason. In addition, you get port forwarding, which is always a nice perk. However, you’ll need to check the server list or get in touch with the company if you need to determine what features are available on each server.

Sweden may not be the best place for a VPN company that kept any logs, but thankfully, PrivateVPN is a zero log company. What that means is that if the company were required to provide logs for an investigation they couldn’t do so as they do not have access to them. PrivateVPN actually has a spotless record when it comes to providing privacy and for most people, that’s what matters most with a good VPN.

Speed

It is quite common that using VPN normally slows down your Internet speed. PrivateVPN claim that using PrivateVPN may increase your speed because unlike an ISP that throttles certain types of traffic, they never restrict traffic. As I ran the test on Windows client, I was quite satisfied with the performance results.

Customer support

There is a remote installation available for those who prefer it. A customer support technician will remotely connect to your machine to set up the VPN. That said, most won’t require this since it’s fairly easy to install and get going. However, it is something that sets them apart from competitors out there. This feature can also be used for maintenance or troubleshooting, which is nice.

PrivateVPN also has 24/7 customer support, however it does not offer a live chat, but a standard contact form instead. After trying to send them a message, I’ve got a response in a very short time of under 15 minutes.

PrivateVPN has been around for a while and has established itself as a great service. Those who subscribe get access to a great network of servers in excellent locations. Speeds are pretty good and privacy is superb, as evidenced by the zero logs policy. They have decent encryption and you can toggle between TCP and UDP as needed. The additional availability of kill switch, auto-reconnect, port forwarding, and proxy options round out the service.

There are few cons going for PrivateVPN and a large amount of pros so it’s certainly a service worth considering. The seven day money back guarantee just adds to that as you can make sure the service works for you before committing to a longer subscription.

8.5 Total Score

PrivateVPN seems like a great service that will make a lot of people very happy.
