Ease of Use

The registration process is pretty simple. Once you click, all you have to do is choose your preferred billing cycle and any add-ons that you might want. As a note, the registration page may confuse some new users, as it asks for simultaneous-use numbers and claims that it costs $1 per simultaneous user.

Don’t worry, though. It actually comes with the ability to have up to five devices connected simultaneously at no charge. If you need more than that, you’ll pay $1 per device. The service is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, and more.

VPN Location

TorGuard offers 1,600 servers around the world, located in 50 different nations. That’s actually a very good number, and more than many other companies offer. Generally speaking, the more servers on offer, the better you’ll protect your privacy.

Price

TorGuard offers four pricing tiers for VPN service (note that they also offer anonymous email and other services that are not touched on in this review). The options you have are monthly, which will run you $9.99 per month, quarterly, which costs $19.99 per three months, semi-annually, which will cost you $29.99 every six months, and annually, which costs $59.99 per year.

Obviously, the most affordable option is the annual plan, which comes out to just half the cost of what you’d pay over 12 months with a monthly subscription. With that being said, the prices are a little higher than some other providers with comparable speeds, number of servers, and support. They do accept multiple forms of payments, including credit cards, PayPal and Bitcoin.

Privacy

Any VPN worth your money should protect your privacy while surfing. TorGuard promises to encrypt up and downstream traffic, but doesn’t specify the encryption type (128-bit or 256-bit). However, the company does hide your IP address in addition to offering encryption, which is an important consideration for all web users, and ensures that companies, your ISP and even government agencies are unable to determine your actual IP address.

Speed

The actual speeds you enjoy on TorGuard will vary. While most servers only had a slightly noticeable lag, heavily populated ones were definitely worse. Thankfully, there are 1,600 servers to choose from, so you can easily move to a less heavily used option.

Customer support

You’ve got quite a few options for customer support with TorGuard. The live chat function is handy for problems that need an immediate answer, but the robust knowledge base is great for anyone hoping to solve their issue on their own. There’s also a feature that lets you ask the user community, and you can monitor your support tickets through the dashboard.
