BolehVPN is a VPN service that hails all the way from Asia. Like many VPN services, BolehVPN promises to protect its user’s data with lighting speed that outclasses the competition. But does BolehVPN really have what it takes to stand out from the crowd, or is it just another VPN? Let’s find out.
Ease of Use
Like other VPN services, BolehVPN is much easier to use than it appears. When you first open it up, you’ll notice a slew of options, tabs, and buttons that you have no idea what they are. For the less technically inclined, this can be a huge turn-off; especially when some competitors literally just have a big button that says connect.
But once you get past the initial shock and navigate around a little bit, you’ll find yourself using it with a lot more ease than you would have thought initially.back to menu ↑
BolehVPN has a small number of secure locations for its users. Some users might not like the limited number of locations, but they make up for it by having different options for each location. BolehVPN supports P2P, proxied, fully routed and DNS options.
For the average users, these options won’t mean too much. But for the person that likes to use their VPN for multiple purposes, the multiple server options will be intriguing enough to give it a try.back to menu ↑
At $10 a month, BolehVPN sits at the upper range of mid-priced VPNs. It’s not super expensive, but it’s not the cheapest. If you’d like to save a little money, you can purchase six months of BolehVPN for $45 or go up to a a year for $80. If you go by the year, you’ll end up saving $40 when compared to the month-to-month plan.

One of BolehVPN’s biggest strength is privacy. Because the company is based out of Malaysia, which has no data storing laws, BolehVPN is one of the few VPN services that keeps absolutely nothing. No logs, no meta data. The only time that they do keep information is when users are abusing their systems by using BolehVPN to help launch internet attacks, like a DDOS attack.
In that case, they’ll keep temporary logs long enough to verify the abuse of their service and that’s all.
As far as encryption goes, BolehVPN uses 256-bit AES encryption with an RSA-2048 handshake encryption and SHA-512 HMAC data authentication. To put it into layman’s terms: your data is as safe as it can possibly be.back to menu ↑
In terms of speed, BolehVPN neither disappoints nor excites users. When downloading movies or shows, it performs well. You can get up, go to the bathroom or make a sandwich and, depending on your internet service, have your download already completed.
You’ll notice a slight slow down, like most VPN services, but you’re still able to visit most of your favorite sites; it just takes a little longer to load.back to menu ↑
Customer support is probably BolehVPN’s biggest weakness. Unlike other VPN services that offer instant live chat and prompt e-mail responses, BolehVPN’s system is much slower. Before you can ask questions you have to verify your BolehVPN credentials first, which can be annoying at times.
There is a live chat option, but you essentially have to take a ticket and wait until someone shows up to help you. Likewise, the e-mail system also takes several hours for a response, which can be a drag if you’re hoping for a swift solution.
Luckily, to supplement their slow response, BolehVPN has a pretty nice troubleshooting guide so that you don’t have to wait for someone else to help you. Nine times out of ten, most issues can be solved by doing a little troubleshooting, but if you’re technically impaired you might still want to talk to a real person.
All in all, BolehVPN is a well rounded VPN with a lot to offer its users. It's not going to win awards for design or speed, but it doesn't have to. It does exactly what it needs you to do, keeps your data safe, and runs swift and smoothly. If you like using VPNs for different things, or you just want something really secure, BolehVPN is well worth your time.
